Please get information via public announcements on radio, TV and the internet about school closures or delays. These announcements will be made after 5:30 A.M. Please do not call the school district transportation department, the school district administration building, individual schools, or radio stations for information. Answering these calls will reduce our ability to take other necessary action in responding to a weather crisis.

Announcements

In case of bad weather, you can expect to hear one of four possible announcements (If there are no radio, TV, or internet announcements about changes, it means we will be operating with regular procedures):

Renton schools are “closed” today.
Renton schools are “open, 1 or 2 hours late”.
Renton schools are “open, 1 or 2 hours late, with limited transportation”.
Renton schools are “open on regular schedule, with limited transportation”. (Bus drivers will notify students riding their buses in advance of possible changes in routes and will explain what “ limited transportation” means on the various routes.)

Schedules

SCHOOL CLOSURE: When schools are closed for the day, all community and school activities held in the public school buildings will be canceled. This includes all scheduled athletic events at home and away.

SCHOOL DELAY : When announcements report school is delayed one or two hours, the following classes or out-of-district programs WILL BE CANCELED:

ONE HOUR LATE :

Hillcrest A.M. Preschool
Head Start/ECEAP Programs
Career & Life Skills Off Campus Programs: Horticulture, Valley Medical Center
Sartori Transition Program: Special Education
Breakfast Programs
Out of District Programs including: Childhaven, New Horizon, Northwest School for the Hearing Impaired, Overlake Specialty School , Children’s Institute, Highline Community College , McKinney- Vento (Transportation)

TWO HOURS LATE:

All those listed under one hour late, plus:

Hillcrest P.M. Preschool
A.M. Kindergarten
Behavior Disabilities Programs at Kennydale (transportation will be provided to home school in the P.M.)
