Occupational and/or Physical Therapy in Renton Schools
425-204-2285
Occupational
and Physical Therapy Services in the Renton focuses on enabling
students to participate in their educational program to their
greatest potential despite any limitations that may exist due
to physical challenges. Specific
areas occupational and physical therapists address include
use of functional and purposeful activities to facilitate a child's
active participation in:
- Self-maintenance
- Mobility and school access
- Academic and vocational
pursuits
- Gross and fine motor activities
- Play or leisure activities
that occur in school environments
Schools provide occupational
and/or physical therapy when a child with a disability is found
eligible for special education services and is determined by the
team to need this related service to benefit from their Individual
Educational Program. Students may receive
direct therapy services and/or indirect consultation services provided
to their classroom staff. In addition some students may require
assistive technology and environmental modifications.
The school
occupational and physical therapists collaborate with parents,
teachers and other educational staff to help implement individual
children’s
special education program.
