  Basic Program

The program at Sartori
emphasizes work habits, attitudes, and job skills students need to successfully transition from the school environment to the world of work. Industry standards regarding attendance, punctuality, performance, positive attitude, interpersonal skills, appropriate dress, and preparedness are daily priorities.

A variety of courses are offered at Sartori Education Center. Students usually study one subject at a time while working in an environment that provides timely and continuous feedback. Sartori Education Center offers students the opportunity to work at their own pace, completing courses according to their individual rate and ability level. Sartori class times vary, allowing for individual learning styles and needs.

Students are assigned to one teacher and stay in the same classroom for their five-hour class. They are required to complete a syllabus of assignments and demonstrate competency in each course. Credit is issued at that time. The teacher monitors self-paced learning, issuing letter grades for completed work. Textbooks, computers and audiovisual equipment are supplied. Students are to provide their own paper, pencils, and personal hygiene supplies.

Other aspects of the basic program include:

Work-Related Experience — As Sartori prepares its students for transitioning into the world of work, students are expected to complete a job-related activity during their enrollment. This may range from job shadowing, to internship, to employment.

Technology
— The current job market requires employees to have a basic computer background. Prior to graduation, Sartori students must show competence in the "Introduction to Technology" course. This may be accomplished by transferring the credit from a prior high school or by completing the class while enrolled at Sartori.

Other Programs

Contract Learning — offered to Sartori students with special circumstances. To be eligible, students must have established a good attendance record at Sartori, a good daily work ethic, a positive attitude, and academic progress. Students and a parent/guardian must meet with the instructor prior to enrolling in contract learning to sign a contract outlining goals and expectations. Per RCW 392-121-182, full-time students must meet with school personnel a minimum of one hour a week and complete a minimum of 24 hours of homework weekly.

Special-Interest classes — Information Technology, Computer Networking, and Physical Education credits are also available to Sartori students. Students interested in these special-interest classes should speak to their homeroom teacher for further information.

Work-Based Learning credits — To qualify, students must: (1) be employed within their chosen career pathway, (2) complete the necessary paperwork, (3) maintain accurate records, and (4) have good worksite and school attendance.

Sartori Education Center follows the rules and guidelines of the Renton School District in issuing diplomas. Students may earn their diploma at any time during the school year. In order to participate in the Sartori Education Center graduation ceremony, an exit interview with the Program Manager is necessary to verify completion of the Renton School Board requirements for graduation. Students will not receive their diploma until all fees and fines have been paid, including fees incurred at other schools.
