Attendance

At school, attendance is vital to academic achievement and personal growth. At work, regular attendance is vital to successful job performance, productivity and professionalism. Therefore, Sartori Education Center expects regular and punctual attendance at school (WAC 180-40-010), equating this behavior with successful performance in the world of work.

In keeping with its commitment to prepare students to be functioning, contributing young adults, Sartori Education Center expects students to call their instructor on or before the day of absence or late arrival in order for the absence/tardy to be excused. Just as repeated absences from work results in one's loss of employment, excessive absences from Sartori may result in one's loss of placement at school.
The Sartori attendance policy outlined below impacts all students, regardless of their age. In order for an absence or a tardy to be excused, the student must contact the instructor prior to the incident. Failure to make the contact will result in an instructor initiated phone call to the parent/guardian.

The BECCA Bill, an attendance/truancy law enacted by the 1995 Washington State Legislature, places particular emphasis on the school attendance of students under the age 18. While all Sartori students are held to the standards in the BECCA Bill, (RCW 28A.225) students under the age of 18 may be subject to a court appearance and ultimately juvenile detention time for failure to comply with the BECCA Bill attendance standards.

If there is a third, fourth, fifth, or sixth unexcused absence, a teacher/parent conference will be necessary prior to the student returning to school. A formal letter identifying the school district's responsibility relative to compulsory attendance will follow. On the seventh unexcused absence, the parent will receive another formal notification and a truancy petition may be initiated.

Excessive absence/tardiness, even though excused, may result in loss of credit and/or placement at Sartori Education Center.

Students entering or leaving the campus during the school day for any reason must make arrangements with their instructor. Failure to do so will result in a truancy. This includes students with prearranged appointment.
