Another way for students to get volunteer hours:
Students can work on local election campaigns to earn service credits Students interested in earning community service credits can assist in local political campaigns and events to earn those credits and valuable skills in the democratic process.There are numerous candidates running for local offices such as Renton Mayor and Renton City Council. Students can volunteer to work on those campaigns.Additionally, there is an issue on the Nov. 6 ballot related to school districts: HJR 4204, the Simple Majority issue is a statewide issue on the ballot. Practically every city has a group of citizens working to inform voters about this issue.If students are interested, please have them contact:Phone banks to contact identified positive voters for the Nov. 6 election measure that includes the Simple Majority issue (EHJR 4204) have been set up for Oct 17, 18, 19, 29, 30 and 31 at three locations:

Volunteers are needed at all locations. Calls are to identified voters who have supported school issues and includes a script with all necessary information to remind the voter to Approve 4204.

WOIS/The Career Information System website contains information about careers, post-secondary schools and training programs. WOIS has recently added parent resources under the “More Resources” section of the website. The parent resources include “Tips for Parents”, “Fast Facts” and “Book Reviews” written by Dr. Susan Quattrociocchi. There is also a link to the ACRN Parents’ Guide, with information and tri-fold brochures on subjects ranging from School Success to Post-High School Planning.
