School assignment is determined by your home address so please
provide
your complete address with zip code. Registration takes
place at the school. Contact your child's school first to find
out what information to bring
when
registering
your student. Locate
school phone numbers, addresses, and driving directions and maps.
Does the Renton School District have a preschool program?

When is kindergarten registration
and what is the age requirement for my child to enroll?
Kindergarten registration is the first two
full weeks of May with specific "Kindergarten Round Up" dates planned
by each building. Your child must be five years old on or before
August 31st to be eligible for kindergarten enrollment.
What is the age requirement for my
child to enroll in first grade?
Your child must be six years old on or before
August 31st to enter first grade. Additional information can be
obtained from the Office of Elementary Education at 425-204-2347.
How can I obtain test scores for Renton
schools?
Visit the State Office of Superintendent
of Public Instruction (OSPI) web site at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/ for
test scores, general assessment information, and demographics.
You may also contact our Community Relations office at 425-204-2345
to request test scores for schools.

Does the Renton School District offer
a full-day kindergarten program?
Full-day
kindergarten is offered at seven elementary schools: Benson Hill,
Bryn Mawr, Cascade, Hazelwood, Kennydale, Sierra Heights, and Talbot
Hill. This is a tuition-based program and classes fill quickly.

How do I request a copy of my high
school transcript?
Contact the registrar at the high school you attended, if
after 1978. When schools are closed, or before 1979, send your
written
request to Renton School District #403, Student Information Services,
300 SW 7th Street, Renton WA 98055. There is a $5.00 fee for transcripts.
Include your full name at the time of attendance and the year that
you would have or did graduate, date of birth and the address
that
the transcript is to be sent, along with a phone number.

What is the procedure for requesting an Interdistrict Transfer?
Contact your resident school district to
request an Interdistrict Student Transfer Request form. Obtain
your
resident district's release and mail the signed form to Renton
School District #403, Student Information Management Services,
300 SW
7th Street,
Renton, Wa. 98055. Note: Submitting a request does not guarantee
acceptance. Some schools' enrollment are at capacity. Contact
Student
Information Services at 425-204-2333; select Option 2 for more
information regarding Interdistrict Transfer requests.
I live within the Renton School District
boundary and would like for my child to attend a Renton school other
than his/her regularly assigned "home" school. What is the procedure
for requesting an Intradistrict Transfer?
For elementary (Grades K-5) requests, contact the
school you want your child to attend and request an Intradistrict
Transfer request form. Submit the form to the school.
For secondary requests (Grades 6-12), obtain an
Intradistrict Transfer request form from the school your student
is normally assigned to and submit the form to the Office of
Secondary Education, Kohlwes Education Center, 300 SW 7th Street,
Renton, WA 98055;
telephone 425-204-2397. Program and space availability are the major considerations for approval. You will be notified by May 30 for high school, or after school starts in September for middle school, as to whether our request can be accommodated. Some middle school approvals are granted prior to May 30. Requests must be renewed when changing levels/schools.
Is there a gifted education program
in Renton Schools?
Renton's gifted education program is called the
"Discovery Program." Information about the program is available

Is there a summer school program
in Renton Schools?
A fee-based summer school is offered on a "first
come, first served" basis. Each
comprehensive secondary school will hold its
own individual remediation summer school program. Please contact
your student's school for dates, times, and enrollment information.
What should I do if I suspect my
child has a disability?
A student or child, whether or not enrolled in
school, may be referred for a special education evaluation by
any source. You may make this referral to the school that the
child attends or would attend. For students aged birth to three,
referrals should be called in to KidCare at 1-800-756-KIDS. For
referrals for developmental screening and special education for
children ages three to five, contact the Child Find office located
at Hillcrest Early Childhood Center at 425-204-2210. The best times
to call are 9:30-11:30 AM and 1:00-3:30 PM.
What are the procedures for Special
Education and related services?
A student or child, whether or not enrolled in
school, may be referred for a special education evaluation by
any source. You may make this referral to the school that the
child attends or would attend. For students aged birth to three,
referrals to special education can be made to the Childfind office
located at Hillcrest Early Childhood Center at 425-204-2210.
How do I enroll my child in Traffic
Safety Education?
Traffic Safety registration forms are available
in the counseling centers at all high schools including Black River
and Sartori Education Center. If you need additional information,
please visit the Traffic Safety web page or call 425-204-2312.

How do I report a concern about weapons
in my child's school? The Renton School District has a confidential
Weapons Hotline at 425-204-2468 that is available to anyone wishing
to report information about weapons in the schools. For additional

the "Weapons in Schools - Annual Notice," a letter mailed to
all families in the district at the beginning of each school
year.
