School District bond election certified
Nearly 62 percent of voters approve measure to continue school building improvement plan

June 4, 2008—Final election results for the May 20, 2008 Renton School District School Improvement Bond measure were posted today by the King County Elections Office.
The $150 million measure passed by an overwhelming margin of 61.67 percent of the vote. An important element for most voters in approving the measure was that it would not raise tax rates for Renton School District taxpayers.

Renton Schools Superintendent Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel convened her Cabinet today to discuss prioritizing the list of school improvement projects, and to set in place expectations that school staff and others would be included in the planning of the improvement projects.

Facts about the election:
• 16,312 ballots (31.47% of registered voters) were counted in the election
• More than 3,200 additional voters cast a ballot for the May 20 election than in the March 11 election
• 71 percent of the additional voters voted “yes” in the May 20 measure
• This was the first all mail-in election conducted by the Renton School District
