Renton Rotary offers the gift of words to

more than 1,000 third-graders

October 2006 - 1,000 students in the Renton School District will receive the gift of words thanks to members of the Rotary Club of Renton. Rotarians, who understand the importance of early childhood education and the significance of having students read at grade level by third grade, recently purchased more than 1,200 dictionaries to give to each third-grade student in the district. Rotary members are personally presenting the dictionaries to students who write their names in the books on a special sticker inside the front cover and take the book home. This year marks the 200th anniversary of American's first dictionary, first printed in 1806 by Noah Webster.
