Hazen High School recognized for improving learning
July 18, 2006 - Hazen High School has
been recognized by a national school evaluation service for significantly
reducing academic achievement gaps.
Full Day Kindergarten
program expanding
July 2006 - The district's full day kindergarten has doubled in erollment this
year. The program serves nearly 25% of RSD kindergarteners. Only a few spots

Renton School Board selects new member
July 13, 2006 — The
Renton School Board at their meeting on Wednesday night selected
Todd Franceschina to replace Joy Poff who resigned her directorship
on June 30 after moving outside of school district boundaries.
Sunday July 9 is deadline
to sign up for summer
10th-grade WASL retakes
High school students who wish to retake
the 10th grade WASL tests have until this Sunday, July 9, to sign
up for WASL retakes in August. This is the first time students
will have the option of retaking the Washington Assessment of Student
Learning during the summer.

long-time Renton School Board member Joy Poff at an open house
celebration on June 30, 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the board room at the

classes
The next session of the Traffic Safety program starts
Monday, June 26th and runs through Friday, August 4th from 8 AM
to 11 AM Monday-Friday.

district to say goodby to Superintendent
After nine years as Superintendent at the Renton School District and nearly 40
years in education, Renton Schools Superintendent Dr. Dolores Gibbons is retiring
at the end of this school year. Everyone is invited to the retirement celebration
for Dr. Gibbons on June 23, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Spirit of Washington Event
Center.

th-grade WASL scores to be received in homes in early June
Summer school still available for students who will
retake tests
May 25, 2006 - By mid-June, high school students in
the classes of 2006, 2007 and 2008 who took the Washington Assessment
of Student Learning (WASL) will be mailed an individual score report
with final and accurate scores on reading, writing and math tests.

School students in concert on May 13

New York based composer and pianist
Pete Malinverni will lead the Nelsen Middle School Concert
Chorus in two concert performances on Saturday, May 13, at
5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Carco Theatre, 1717 Maple Valley Hwy,
Renton. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 students.

March 2006 - Renton School Board members were presented
a proposal at a recent meeting to move programs currently housed
at Thomson School into other buildings in the district and raze
the school.
Valley Medical
Center donates $40,000 to place life-saving defibrillators
in Renton schools
March 2006 - The Renton-area community-oriented medical center recently donated
more than $40,000 to the Renton School District to purchase 18 life-saving Automated
External Defibrillators (AEDs) to place in schools and other facilities.
Kindergarten Registration

February 24, 2006 - The Renton School District will hold registration
for fall entrance to kindergarten on May 1 - 5 and May 8 - 12 2006. Each
elementary school will plan specific “Kindergarten Round-Up” activities.

Miscommunication
causes lockdown at Renton High School
January 18, 2006 - A misunderstanding from a 9-1-1 call today caused a lockdown
at Renton High School. Renton Police responded to the call which reported a person
possibly with a weapon on campus; the caller, however, later told police that
the incident was at nearby Renton Technical College not Renton High School.

some of the boundary changes planned for implementation in
2006-2007.

Mentally-ill man causes lockdown, parent pick-up of walkers
at Tiffany Park Elementary School
October 27, 2005 - Tiffany Park Elementary
School went to a low-level lockdown yesterday after receiving a
call about a mentally-ill man who was thought to be headed to the
school.

Education Office to Release Updated ‘School
Improvement’ list

Dimmitt Middle School meets Annual Yearly Progress.

10, 2005 —The state’s
education office will release updated adequate yearly progress
(AYP) results for schools, districts and the state on Thursday.
After considering information provided by school and district staff,
scores for Dimmitt Middle School have been adjusted and the school
is no longer on this year’s AYP list.
