Hazen High School recognized for improving learning
July 18, 2006 - Hazen High School has been recognized by a national school evaluation service for significantly reducing academic achievement gaps.

Full Day Kindergarten program expanding
July 2006 - The district's full day kindergarten has doubled in erollment this year. The program serves nearly 25% of RSD kindergarteners. Only a few spots are open for 2006-2007. Open the PDF Flyer for locations, times, and other details.

Renton School Board selects new member
July 13, 2006 — The Renton School Board at their meeting on Wednesday night selected Todd Franceschina to replace Joy Poff who resigned her directorship on June 30 after moving outside of school district boundaries.

Sunday July 9 is deadline to sign up for summer 10th-grade WASL retakes
High school students who wish to retake the 10th grade WASL tests have until this Sunday, July 9, to sign up for WASL retakes in August. This is the first time students will have the option of retaking the Washington Assessment of Student Learning during the summer.

Renton School Board member to be recognized at community get-together
June 2006 - Community members have an opportunity to say farewell to long-time Renton School Board member Joy Poff at an open house celebration on June 30, 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the board room at the district administrative offices, 300 SW 7th Street, Renton.

Traffic Safety is now enrolling students for Summer classes
The next session of the Traffic Safety program starts Monday, June 26th and runs through Friday, August 4th from 8 AM to 11 AM Monday-Friday.

June 2, 2006—The Renton School District Board of Directors will accept letters of interest from applicants for Director District No. 1 through June 16.

Community, district to say goodby to Superintendent
After nine years as Superintendent at the Renton School District and nearly 40 years in education, Renton Schools Superintendent Dr. Dolores Gibbons is retiring at the end of this school year. Everyone is invited to the retirement celebration for Dr. Gibbons on June 23, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Spirit of Washington Event Center.

10 th-grade WASL scores to be received in homes in early June
Summer school still available for students who will retake tests
May 25, 2006 - By mid-June, high school students in the classes of 2006, 2007 and 2008 who took the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) will be mailed an individual score report with final and accurate scores on reading, writing and math tests.

New York based composer/pianist to lead Nelsen Middle School students in concert on May 13
Concert includes West Coast premier of new CD “Joyful”
New York based composer and pianist Pete Malinverni will lead the Nelsen Middle School Concert Chorus in two concert performances on Saturday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Carco Theatre, 1717 Maple Valley Hwy, Renton. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 students.

Fifteen Renton Teachers Recognized for Excellence in Education

Four individuals and three teams of outstanding Renton teachers will be recognized as winners of the Renton Chamber of Commerce Ahead of the Class, Excellence In Education Awards at a ceremony Tuesday, May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center and Renton High School Commons, located at 400 S 2nd in Renton.

64 percent of Renton schools receive Academic Achievement Awards

April 18, 2006 - Fourteen of Renton School District’s 22 schools have received Academic Achievement Awards for raising student achievement in mathematics, reading or writing as measured by last year’s Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL).

Board hears proposal to move programs from Thomson and raze school
Hearing for public input planned for March 29, 6 p.m., in board room
March 2006 - Renton School Board members were presented a proposal at a recent meeting to move programs currently housed at Thomson School into other buildings in the district and raze the school.

Valley Medical Center donates $40,000 to place life-saving defibrillators in Renton schools
March 2006 - The Renton-area community-oriented medical center recently donated more than $40,000 to the Renton School District to purchase 18 life-saving Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to place in schools and other facilities.

Kindergarten Registration for 2006-2007
February 24, 2006 - The Renton School District will hold registration for fall entrance to kindergarten on May 1 - 5 and May 8 - 12 2006.  Each elementary school will plan specific “Kindergarten Round-Up” activities.

January 27, 2006 - The Renton Community Foundation's “Circle of Giving” program has awarded grants totaling $40,000 to Renton teachers and staff and more than two dozen local organizations.

Miscommunication causes lockdown at Renton High School
January 18, 2006 - A misunderstanding from a 9-1-1 call today caused a lockdown at Renton High School. Renton Police responded to the call which reported a person possibly with a weapon on campus; the caller, however, later told police that the incident was at nearby Renton Technical College not Renton High School.

December 13, 2005 - Students in Hartford, Conn., have to pay $103 fines for uttering profanity on school premises.

October 27, 2005 - Tiffany Park Elementary School went to a low-level lockdown yesterday after receiving a call about a mentally-ill man who was thought to be headed to the school.

October 26, 2005 - The next session of the Traffic Safety program starts November 14, 2005 and runs through February 2, 2006 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Monday-Thursday.

Washington students know more about math and are better readers than the national average in nearly every category cited Wednesday in what the federal government calls "the nation's report card."

State Education Office to Release Updated ‘School Improvement’ list
After re-evaluation of data, Dimmitt Middle School meets Annual Yearly Progress.
October 10, 2005 —The state’s education office will release updated adequate yearly progress (AYP) results for schools, districts and the state on Thursday. After considering information provided by school and district staff, scores for Dimmitt Middle School have been adjusted and the school is no longer on this year’s AYP list.
