Renton School Board member to be recognized at community get-together
Community members have an opportunity
to say farewell to long-time Renton School Board member Joy
Poff at an open house celebration on June 30, 3 to 4:30 p.m.
in the board room at the district administrative offices, 300
SW 7th Street, Renton.
Poff has served on the Renton
School Board for nearly 20 years. The state’s school director’s
association says very few school board members have such
tenure. The job is a volunteer position, with no pay. Voters
conduct a job evaluation in the way of an election every
four years: Poff has been re-elected five times.
Poff says she does the job not for money but for the excitement
and opportunity of helping teachers teach and children learn.
Poff is valued and respected by school staff: Each year, along
with her many other duties, Poff presents school staff with
an award marking 20 years of service. In many of these ceremonies,
because of her tenure, Poff is able to share personal anecdotes
about when the employee first started teaching in the district.
