Two members on the Renton School
District Board of Directors were re-elected to four-year
terms during the Nov. 8 General Election
Albert Talley Sr. ran unopposed
for director position 2, and will serve another four-year term.
Al
was appointed to the board in 2000 and first elected in 2001.
As a business owner, Al brings expertise in business matters
to the board. He works closely with other members of the Renton
School Board, as well as with the superintendent, district
staff, parents and community leaders to provide a safe and
positive learning environment for all district students. Al’s
service to the community includes past chairman of the Renton
Human Rights and Affairs Commission, past chairman of the Renton
Chamber of Commerce, member of the Citizens Advisory Committee
for Instruction, and serves as a board member and advisory
council member for Community In Schools of Renton. He is a
Rotarian, a member of the Renton Chamber of Commerce, a mentor
to two students in the district and president of the Puget
Sound Senior Softball Association.
Al was recently recognized
as Renton’s 2005 Citizen of
the Year for his significant contributions to others in the
community and selfless support to make a difference in lives
of Renton citizens.
Al says being involved in so many
community-based organizations helps him understand the type
of community involvement necessary for a successful education
system. He says the most important thing in his life is his
family.
Marcie Maxwell ran unopposed for
director position 5, and will serve another four-year term.
During
her current term, Marcie was board president in 2004 and has
served as the board’s legislative representative
for four years. Her King County school board peers elected
Marcie to the Washington State School Directors’ Association’s
Legislative Committee. She serves on the district’s budget
advisory and audit committees.
Marcie was recognized as Renton Citizen of the Year in 2004
for community leadership and her commitment to making life
better for children, families and citizens of Renton.
Marcie
is past chair of Renton Chamber of Commerce and past president
of Renton PTA Council. She is a board member for Kennydale
Neighborhood Association, Renton Rotary, Renton Community Foundation,
and Renton Levy & Bond Citizens’ Committees.
She also serves on the Seattle King County Association of Realtors
Governmental Affairs Committee.
Marcie says of her commitment
to serve the families and citizens of Renton, “Serving
as school board director is important and challenging leadership
work. Public schools are the heart of our communities and are
the gateway to successful neighborhoods and cities, future
economic development and quality of life. Focusing on student
achievement, I believe in opportunities for all students.”
