Two members on the Renton School District Board of Directors were re-elected to four-year terms during the Nov. 8 General Election

Albert Talley Sr. ran unopposed for director position 2, and will serve another four-year term.

Al was appointed to the board in 2000 and first elected in 2001. As a business owner, Al brings expertise in business matters to the board. He works closely with other members of the Renton School Board, as well as with the superintendent, district staff, parents and community leaders to provide a safe and positive learning environment for all district students. Al’s service to the community includes past chairman of the Renton Human Rights and Affairs Commission, past chairman of the Renton Chamber of Commerce, member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Instruction, and serves as a board member and advisory council member for Community In Schools of Renton. He is a Rotarian, a member of the Renton Chamber of Commerce, a mentor to two students in the district and president of the Puget Sound Senior Softball Association.

Al was recently recognized as Renton’s 2005 Citizen of the Year for his significant contributions to others in the community and selfless support to make a difference in lives of Renton citizens.

Al says being involved in so many community-based organizations helps him understand the type of community involvement necessary for a successful education system. He says the most important thing in his life is his family.

Marcie Maxwell ran unopposed for director position 5, and will serve another four-year term.

During her current term, Marcie was board president in 2004 and has served as the board’s legislative representative for four years. Her King County school board peers elected Marcie to the Washington State School Directors’ Association’s Legislative Committee. She serves on the district’s budget advisory and audit committees.
Marcie was recognized as Renton Citizen of the Year in 2004 for community leadership and her commitment to making life better for children, families and citizens of Renton.

Marcie is past chair of Renton Chamber of Commerce and past president of Renton PTA Council. She is a board member for Kennydale Neighborhood Association, Renton Rotary, Renton Community Foundation, and Renton Levy & Bond Citizens’ Committees. She also serves on the Seattle King County Association of Realtors Governmental Affairs Committee.

Marcie says of her commitment to serve the families and citizens of Renton, “Serving as school board director is important and challenging leadership work. Public schools are the heart of our communities and are the gateway to successful neighborhoods and cities, future economic development and quality of life. Focusing on student achievement, I believe in opportunities for all students.”
