Renton School Board member Al Talley
Named Citizen
of the Year
October 7, 2005 - Renton School
Board member Al Talley has been named Citizen of the Year by
the City of Renton.
The award recognizes Al’s
long history of community involvement, his significant contributions
to support schools and community endeavors and his dedication
to making the Renton community a great place to live, work,
play, and learn.
Most teachers and staff throughout
the district know of Al’s
personal and professional commitment to children; this award,
however, goes further to recognize Al’s individual acts
of goodwill, and conviction to help others and improve the
quality of life throughout the Renton community.
Al is not only a volunteer on the school board, elected by
voters over several elections, he also mentors students and
personally bakes cakes and pies to distribute to staff as a
way of saying thank you for their hard work. Additionally,
Al makes significant contributions through a number of local
organizations in which he is involved.
Al was selected for the award by representatives from the
Greater Renton Chamber of Commerce, City of Renton, and Renton
Rotary. Past recipients of the honor include School Board Member
Marcie Maxwell, Keith Renfrew and former Renton Schools Superintendent
Gary Kohlwes.
Al and three of Renton's Outstanding Citizens will be honored
at a banquet on October 13, 2005, at 5:00 p.m., at the Renton
Senior Activity Center. For information and reservations, visit
