Small airplane crashes into Kennydale Elementary
School - Two killed when plane enters building after
midair collision
August 4, 2005 — A Cessna airplane
crashed through the roof of Kennydale Elementary School today after
a midair collision with a float plane which was trying to land
at Renton's Municipal Airport.

Principal Changes Announced for 2005-2006
June 23, 2005 - Some schools around the district will get new principals for
the coming school year. Several principals have decided to retire, take positions
in other districts or request other positions within the district.
State audit finds Renton School District
fiscally responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars - District
recognized for five years of exemplary audits

9, 2005 - The Renton School District
has again received excellent results in an accountability audit
conducted by the Washington State Auditor's Office. The annual
audit found no issues of misuse, misappropriation or noncompliance
in district-wide financial operations, acknowledging the district
as being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

School 2005
June 8, 2005 - Each comprehensive secondary school will hold its
own remediation summer school program.

Renton Winners Announced'
April 22, 2005 - The annual Best of
Renton contest, hosted by the Renton Reporter, recently concluded
and the winners include a Renton School District teacher, board
member, a school-community based volunteer program and school building.

School boundary adjustments will mean a change of
school for some students
Changes will relieve overcrowding at
some schools and allow more efficient use of classrooms across
the district.
Some students in
the Renton School District will attend a different school at
the start of the new school year; others will make the change in
the 2006-2007 school year.
Renton Teachers Receive Ahead of the Class Awards
Ceremony set for Tuesday, May 3, 7 p.m. at the Renton
IKEA Performing Arts Center at Renton High School. Six individuals
and one team of outstanding Renton teachers will be recognized
as the winners of the Greater Renton Chamber of Commerce Ahead
of the Class, Excellence In Education Awards at a ceremony Tuesday,
May 3 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center
and Renton High School Commons, located at 400 S 2nd in Renton.

April 8, 2005 - Renton School District
Board members presented the Outstanding Employee Awards at the
April 6th meeting to five district staff members.
Public Gets Chance to See Renton High Speech and
Debate Students in Action
April 4, 2005 - Students on the Renton High School speech
and debate team will offer their award-winning presentations to
the public on Monday, April 18, 7 p.m. at the IKEA Performing Arts
Center at Renton High School.
Pulitzer
Prize Winning Author Wants Meeting with Students
Pulitzer Prize winning author Alice Walker has requested
an audience with students on the Renton High School speech and debate
team after learning that several of the students used Walker's books
as inspiration to win the Washington state speech and debate championship
held last weekend.

Language Other than English
February 1, 2005 - The number of non-English
speaking students, or English Language Learners (ELL), in the Renton
School District continues to grow each year. Last year, more than
1,600 of the district's 13,000 students were identified as speaking

January 14, 2005 - Renton teachers and 21 local community organizations received
a combined $30,000 in grant money from the Renton Community Foundation Circle

to look at feasibility of proposal accepted by board
January 14, 2005 - The
Renton School Board recently ruled on recommended solutions to
the district's challenges of school overcrowding and fragmented
boundaries. The recommendations, made by the Comprehensive
Boundary Review Task Force, were the result of months of meetings and
community forums to seek input and solutions to unbalanced school populations
resulting in overcrowding at some schools while others are underused. Read

December 22, 2004 - School Board will direct Enrollment
Review Committee to hone, add to list of proposed solutions. The
Comprehensive Boundary Review Task Force has drafted a final report
with proposals to fix problems of overcrowding at some district schools

2nd Semester Traffic Safety class starts on February 5 and runs
