November 19, 1999 - Ten citizens have submitted letters of interest in the Renton School Board Director District No. 5 position made vacant by the death of Beverly Barfield. They are Sheila Airis, Ethan Bowen, Steve Dobson, Stanley Friendship, Stan Kawamoto, Ed Lane, Shelly Larson, Marcie Maxwell, Herbert Postlewait and Roger Wicks.

To remain eligible for consideration, candidates must submit written responses to questions and a brief biography to the school board by November 30. Candidates will then be interviewed in a public process on December 7, 4 pm at the Kohlwes Education Center (300 SW 7th Street). The current board will then narrow the field and select candidates for a second public interview on December 8 at 4 pm at the Kohlwes Education Center. Immediately following the last interview, the board will adjourn to an executive session to select the person who will serve out the remaining two years of Ms. Barfield's term. The selected candidate will be seated at the December 15, regularly scheduled board meeting.
