School Principal Changes for 2005-06

June 23, 2005 - Some schools around the district will get new principals for the coming school year. Several principals at district schools have decided to retire, take positions in other districts or request other positions within the district. Here are the principal changes for the 2005-06 school year:

  • Charlie James, an assistant principal at Renton High School, will become principal at Dimmitt Middle School. Charlie has served for two years in his current position. His previous positions include 15 years as a teacher in Federal Way and at Hazen High School. Charlie will replace Kathleen Bailey at Dimmitt, who will become executive director of secondary education. That position was made available by the retirement of the current executive director, Louis Pappas.
  • Mary Merritt, an assistant principal at Lindbergh High School, will become principal at McKnight Middle School. Mary has served for two years in her current position. Her previous positions include nine years as a teacher in Auburn and dean of students at a high school in the Highline School District. Mary will replace Cathie Rondeau.
  • Greg Domingos will become assistant principal at Dimmitt Middle School. He is currently working in that position on an interim basis. Greg has taught at Dimmitt since 1999.
  • Damien Pattenaude, will become assistant principal at Hazen High School. Damien is currently completing an administrative internship at Renton High School. He has taught in the Kent and Renton school districts since 1999.
  • Irene Olson, an education associate at Bryn Mawr Elementary School, will become principal at Tiffany Park Elementary School. Irene has been in education for over 24 years. She began her career at Renton High School as a German/Russian foreign language teacher. She also served as a librarian in the Highline School District. Irene is replacing Janet Fawcett at Tiffany Park, who will become principal at Highlands Elementary School.
  • Jesely Alvarez, formerly an administrative intern in the Edmonds School District and the Seattle School District, will become assistant principal at Dimmitt Middle School. Jesely has taught for more than 10 years, served as curriculum coordinator and worked in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange program in Washington D.C. Jesely replaced Angela Grutko at Dimmitt who moved to the Kent School District.
  • Jon Stadler will become principal at Campbell Hill Elementary School, on an interim basis. Jon was previously a principal at Salmon Creek Elementary School in the Highline School District. He has also taught first and second grades. Jon replaces Reginald Reid, who is taking a position with the state's education office.
  • Sue Beeson will move from assistant principal to principal at Hazen High School. Sue will replace Rick Stubrud who is retiring as principal at Hazen.
  • Janet Fawcett will move from principal at Tiffany Park Elementary School to principal at Highlands Elementary School. Janet will replace Mona Boyer who is resigning.
  • Kathleen Bailey is moving from principal at Dimmitt Middle School to executive director of secondary education, replacing Louis Papas who is retiring.
  • Ginny Knox will be principal at Lakeridge Elementary School. She has held that position as interim for a year.
