New Principals and Other New Hires Announced
August 19, 2004 - A busy summer has produced many new employees throughout the district. More than 100 new teachers have been hired as well other support personnel. There are 43 new teachers at the elementary level, 26 at the middle school level and 28 at the high school level. More than 20 positions in Special Education, however, have yet to be filled.
Below is a list of new principals at many schools and some interesting facts about some of our new teachers:
Ramona Boyer, Principal, Highlands Elementary School
Ramona holds a bachelor's in Education from Northern Illinois University and a master's in Elementary Education from University of Washington. She began her teaching career in Illinois and has worked as an associate principal and principal in the Vancouver, Wash. School District.
Shannon Harvey, Principal,Cascade Elementary School
Shannon holds a bachelors from Western Washington University, a master's from Seattle University and doctorate from Seattle Pacific University. She began her teaching career in Renton in1993. In 2002 she began her administrative career as the Educational Associate at Cascade Elementary.
Vickie Damon, Principal, Kennydale Elementary School
Vickie holds bachelor's and master's in Special Education from Central Washington University. She began her teaching career in 1979 in Lake Washington School District where she continued to teach until coming to Renton this year.
Ed Crow, Assistant Principal, Renton High School
Ed holds a bachelor's in English Communication from the University of Washington and a master's in teaching at Seattle University. He has taught in the Seattle School District and served as an administrative intern in the Edmonds and Bellevue school districts.
Rebecca L. Schlosstein, Assistant Principal, Nelsen Middle School
Rebecca holds a bachelor's in Special Education from Western Bellingham and a masters in Computers in Education from St. Martin's College. She began her teaching career in 1981 in Carbonados, Wash. She began working in the Renton School District in 1998 as a teacher at Nelsen Middle School.
Shelley Ray Habenicht, Educational Associate, Highlands Elementary School
Shelley Habenicht holds a master's in Education Administration from the University of Washington. She has taught at the SeaTac Christian Academy and has worked as an elementary teacher in the Lake Washington School District where she also served as an Administrative Intern.
Rebecca J. Campbell, Educational Associate, Special Ed. Program Facilitator KEC
Rebecca holds bachelor's and master's in Elementary Education from Central Washington University. She has taught in the Centralia School District and at Renton Park Elementary.
Andrew Todd Lumpe, Director, Curriculum & Staff Development
Andrew holds a bachelor's in Biology from Washburn University of Topeka, a master's in Secondary Education and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instructions from Kansas State University. His career in education includes teaching in the Topeka Kansas School District; grad assistant at Kansas State University; assistant professor at the University of Toledo; professor at Southern Illinois University; Chair of the Science and Math Department at University of Texas, and professor at Southern Illinois University.

The new French/Spanish teacher at Lindbergh High School has studied abroad in both France and Spain.

The new Family & Consumer Science at Hazen High School is the daughter of a recently retired teacher.

The new Physics/Chemistry teacher at Hazen recently completed a NASA internship at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

The new Woods/Construction/Manufacturing teacher in the Career & Life Skills program at Lindbergh has made a career change: His previous profession was as a custom cabinet maker.

The new Language Arts and Journalism teacher at Hazen has recently moved to the this region after living and teaching in Des Moines, Iowa and Beloit, Wisconsin.

The new Reading Specialist at Highlands Elementary School has been teaching in Hong Kong for the past nine years.

The new fifth-grade teacher at Renton Park has worked for the past eight years as a television news anchor and reporter in Portland, Oregon and at KCPQ in Seattle and Tacoma. She grew up in Renton and student taught at Highlands.
