Learn the 40 Developmental Assets that build relationships

These easy to follow guidelines are grounded in research on child and adolescent development, risk prevention, and
resiliency. The great thing about assets is that they’re easy! They’re not a new program or philosophy. Asset building is
about relationships and anybody can do it.

The Importance of Assets

Research shows that the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in risky behaviors. These
common themes about the importance of these assets are:
• They divert youth from risky behaviors and increase civic engagement;
• They give young people the strengths they need to make positive choices in life;
• They promote academic success;
• They benefit all youth and adults.
