Wind Storm Update
December 4, 2003 - As a result
of today's wind storm, ten Renton schools experienced power outages
during the day; some for brief periods while others
had outages most of the day. Puget Sound Energy includes
public schools
on a high priority list for repairs.
Mid-day storms are the most difficult to manage in terms of school
closure
decisions.
Once students, staff and buses are
on the road for the morning, personal safety becomes the paramount
issue. Throughout the day, principals, teachers and other District
staff worked together with Transportation, Nutrition Services,
and Maintenance to ensure student safety.
What's in store for tomorrow? During the night, the
district will monitor the storm and the power outages. Our goal
is to make
closure
decisions by 5:00 AM. If
any of our
schools are still out
of power at 5:00 AM Friday, the decision to cancel classes will be made
for individual schools on a case-by-case basis.
Please listen to
your TV or radio for specific school closure announcements in
the morning.
