Renton School board Election Update
November 5, 2003 - Results from last
night’s
Renton School Board election show incumbent Joy Poff holding a
commanding
lead with 62 percent of the votes. Poff, the most senior board
member with 16 years experience, is challenged by Will Jones.
Superintendent
Dolores Gibbons praised Poff for her long-time commitment to
staff, students, parents and community members, saying
her enthusiasm, stability and depth of knowledge are evident
in her leadership.
“Joy’s understanding of budgets, curriculum, school
construction and standards are important components for a board
member,” Gibbons said. “But I think what we see in
all of our board members is a deep love for what they do and a
belief in the ability of our staff to educate our children.”
According
to the King County Elections Office, thousands of absentee ballots
remain to be counted. It is uncertain how many of those
were cast for the Renton School Board race. |
