Renton Educators Win State Awards
October 2000 - Three Renton educators have been
named the best in the state by their teacher associations and
peers. Lindbergh chemistry teacher Dawn Wakeley was named High
School Science Teacher of the Year by the Washington Science Teachers
Association and her Nelsen colleague Steve Turner was named Middle
School Science Teacher of the Year. It is highly unusual for a
district to have two honorees.
McKnight physical education instructor Lori Dunn
was honored by the Washington Alliance for Health, Physical Education,
Recreation and Dance with the Physical Education Division Award.
She will receive her award at the association's conference on
October 27.
Several Renton physical education instructors will
serve as presenters at the conference including Lori Dunn. She
will present a session on the 'Digi-Walker', while Mary Trettevik
and George Carter will cover basketball shooting. Joe Carchedi
will lead a breakout session on cricket and step aerobics will
be covered by the team of Kari Kitchen, Ralph Novito and Brian
Kaelin.
