'Read to Succeed' Does Just That!

Renton Park Elementary's 'Read to Succeed' program had great success with over 84 percent of their students in first through fifth grade giving the voluntary home reading program a try. The five-week long program encouraged students to read one book every day and complete a book report each week.

Kindergartners could also participate in the program with 56 reading voraciously. Renton Park PTA, which helps to organize the event, provided donated books for the Kindergartners. Students earning fifty points or more received a 'Read to Succeed' T-shirt.

As an added incentive, Principal Diane Rogers explained that students who completed the program could attend a special celebration luncheon at Chuck E. Cheeses' held December 11 and 12. "We had 66 percent of our youngsters meet the 'Read to Succeed' Goals, and all who participated deserve our congratulations," said Rogers.
