Citizens Express Interest
in School Board Position
October 16,
2000 - The Renton School Board of Directors has received
four letters of interest from citizens interested in serving
as the board member from Director District No. 2. The individuals
are Al Talley, Ken Curl, Rob Barrans, and Betty Price. Another
individual had expressed interest in the position, but was ineligible
due to residency outside the Director District No. 2 boundaries.
The Director District No. 2 position, held by former
Board President Scott Kaseburg, became vacant due to a move outside
of school district boundaries. Director District No. 2 represents
the areas of Maplewood, Hazen and parts of the Highlands in East
Renton.
Letters of interest from applicants were due October
6. Each eligible candidate was sent a request for biographical
information and a set of written questions. These items must be
received in the Superintendent's Office by October 20. All applicants
who meet the deadline will be interviewed in a special public
board meeting slated for Wednesday, November 1, 6 pm at the Kohlwes
Education Center (300 SW 7th Street.)
"We encourage all interested citizens to attend,"
commented Superintendent Dr. Dolores Gibbons. "Board members are
a critical link between the community and the school district
and help to shape district policy and direction."
Following the public interview of candidates, the
board members will adjourn to executive session to select the
new board member. The Director District No. 2 member will be inducted
to the board at its regularly scheduled November 15 meeting.
