Nelsen SBC
I. Purpose
1. To establish direction for Nelsen Middle School and improve the working and learning environment at the school
2. To make decisions that affect the entire school and the educational process including staff development, scheduling, communications, curriculum, discipline, physical plant, students services, personnel selection, philosophy, school climate, budget and assessment of programs and committees.
3. To allocate resources.
4. To communicate decisions to appropriate staff for implementation and to serve as a forum for input by the entire school community (i.e., ad hoc committees, standing committees, administrators, parents, teachers and students).II. LimitationsSite-Based council will have the authority to make decisions for the building which are not in conflict with federal, state, or local laws and not in violation of contract provisions or district policy. Waivers may be requested when needed.III. Membership
The Nelsen Middle School Site-Based council will consist of:1. Six teachers
2. One administrator
3. One support staff
4. One classified staff
5. One parent per grade level
6. One student per grade level
7. One community memberIV. Selection of Members
1. All staff representatives will be selected by elections in the spring for the following year. Teachers will be selected at large.
2. Students will be selected by an interview of ASB officers and representatives in the fall. The interview process and election will be determined by the ASB.
3. Parents will be selected through a process decided upon by the PTSA with the assurance that non-PTSA members can participate.
4. Site-Based council will elect a chairperson for the one year term at the beginning of each school year.
5. The community member may be nominated by the district administration, the Nelsen administration, the Nelsen faculty, or by self-nominated and will be confirmed by a consensus of the Site-Based councilV. Term
1. Members may serve on Site-Based council as many times as they wish to serve and are elected (i.e., there are no "term limits").
2. Each stakeholder's group will decide its own method of replacing vacancies.VI. Duties of Members
1. Attend Site-Based council meetings.
2. Carry out the purposes of Site-Based council.
3. Represent and report to constituents.
4. Serve as the decision making body for Nelsen Middle School
