Nelsen Middle School is a large diverse school serving 6 th through 8 th graders from the southeast hill of Renton. Our students come from Benson Hill, Cascade, Renton Park and Tiffany Park elementary schools and continue on to Lindbergh High School. Current enrollment ranges from 1100 to 1130. Nelsen has a talented, caring and supportive staff, an active and involved parent organization and enthusiastic student body. Our strong academic classes are complemented by dynamic performing arts, technical and athletic programs. We strive to maintain a learning environment that is safe, productive and fun.

We are engaged in the second year of a three year comprehensive school improvement plan. Our focus is on short and long term goals to improve in the areas of:

• Reading
• Math
• The Achievement Gap
• Student Citizenship
• Professional Development aligned with the other goals

In the past few years Nelsen has completed a major remodel; expanded after school activities, athletics and student support; increased leadership by student body officers; expanded our performing arts and continued refinement of Renton’s middle school program.
