Meet a Real Panther!

Meet Maplewood Heights' Mascot - Doc.

Doc - 1 week old

Doc, a black panther (Panthera onca), was born in 1998 at the Feline Conservation Center (FCC), also known as The Cat House, located in Rosamond, California. He was born with two siblings, Annie and Cisco who are spotted jaguars.

Jaguars with black coats are called panthers. They have spots, but you can't see them because of their dark coats.

Doc grew quickly into a friendly, curious panther cub.

Jaguars are native to the jungles of South America. Due to the destruction of their habitat, panthers and jaguars are becoming endangered in the wild.

Doc is happy and comfortable in his home, but sometimes he can't help dreaming about living wild and free in the jungle.

Doc and Cisco relax together. Many animals born in captivity are sold to zoos, but Doc will be staying at The Cat House to breed and help increase the big cat's population.
