Monthly PTA Meetings

Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. You’ll keep up to date on what is going on at our school and in our community. If you join PTA you’ll be able to cast your vote as well.

Fun Fall Family Festival

Time: 7:00 pm

Event Fee: $3 per family (pizza and beverages available for purchase at a reasonable price) Get ready for an evening filled with music, games, food, and loads of family fun. This is one of the years’ favorite events.

Entertainment Book Sales

Sales Starts: Friday, September 16

Sales Ends: Monday, October 3

Cost of Book: $30 All the FREE events this year will be funded by selling the Entertainment Books and participating in the Walk-A-Thon. We need every family to do their part and sell at least one book. There is even a prize for selling 2 books. But the more the student sells, the bigger the prize! Orders can be done online as well. Details to follow.

Reflections Art Contest

Entry Fee: FREE (you pay for all your art supplies)

The purpose of this national art contest is to allow children to showcase their talents using a variety of art mediums. The entries are judged locally at Maplewood Heights Elementary. The winners in each category are then sent to a regional judging with the hopes of winning and moving on to state or national. The categories include: visual, performance, musical, video, literature, and photography. This year's theme: I Wonder Why…

Event Fee: FREE We have no idea what this event will be like, but I’m sure you won’t want to miss a moment of it. This one is still in the planning stages.

Family Walk with Mr. G.

Location: Ron Regis Park

Event Fee: FREE

Put on your walking shoes and head on down to Ron Regis Park for a great family walk. The purpose of this event is to promote exercise, family together time, and encourage parents to meet other parents in the community. Water and light snacks will be provided. A fun time will be had by all (especially with Mr. G. involved!!).

Math Night with Ice Cream Social

Our PTA has joined with the staff at Maplewood Heights to support this family orientated, math focused event. The teachers will lead the children and parents in fun games that build math skills. There are booths for each grade level as well as an area for pre-schoolers to play.

After visiting each of the math booths, feel free to wander over and get an ice cream sundae with all the fixings or a tall refreshing ice cream float.

Panther Apparel Sales

Order Deadline: October 30

Event Cost: Your choice (depending on clothing choice) Show your Panther Pride by donning a fine piece of apparel. You may choose from T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and fleece outer wear. $1 from each sale goes to provide a shirt for new staff members and for the underprivileged of our school. Otherwise, the PTA does not profit from these sales.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Pick up pumpkins: Friday, October 28

Show your creativity in this traditional October event. Pick a pumpkin and get carving. There will be prizes for all sorts of categories including: prettiest, spookiest, most creative, etc.

Game Night

Event Fee: $1.00 each (that includes a snack, beverage, and a chance to win a door prize.)

Kids! Grab your Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Mom or more and head down to the cafeteria for some good old’ board game competition. You can bring your favorite board game to share or choose from the many provided.  

Read-a-thon

Event Fee: FREE

Each year the students increase their reading skills by participating in this fun event. Every child will be given a form to record their reading minutes over a two week period. When the form is turned in the next level form is handed back….with a special surprise. At then end of the contest each reader is recognized for their efforts.

Book Event Fee: FREE (you pay for the books you select)

This annual Scholastic Book Fair will be back this year with plenty of books to choose from. The students will be able to preview a selection of books during the week preceding this event. They will create a wish list to make shopping easier for you.
Holiday Craft Event Fee: Cost of each craft: between $1.00 and $5.00

While the parents are busy selecting top notch reading materials, the students can be in the gym creating one of a kind holiday gifts for friends and family. The children will be able to select a craft booth and be assisted in completing a unique gift. Most gifts will be wrapped and ready to be sent home that evening.  

Science Fair

Calling all budding scientists! Let your imagination run wild. This event is fun for the entire family. Any student can enter an experiment, display, or report findings. All projects will be displayed during the winter open house. An entry form will come home prior to the event.

Carnival/Field Day

Event Fee: $10 a family (includes unlimited bouncers and game playing)

Enjoy the new competitions at this years’ event. The bouncers, great food, and the cake walk will be there. Everyone is a winner when they compete in the traditional field day events. Prizes for all.

Staff Appreciation Week

Join with all the parents and students at Maplewood Heights as we create several opportunities to express your thankfulness to the teachers and staff. Many details to follow.

Walk-a-thon

Cost of Event: FREE

Sponsor goal for each student: $50 This event is the only other opportunity the ASB and PTA have to fund events for the Carnival and next years’ programs. If each student does their part, the Walk-a-thon will be a huge success!

Vision and Hearing Screening

Our school nurse coordinates this free student exam. PTA rallies to support her by recruiting volunteers to help. This is done during school hours.  

Art Appreciation Program

Date: all year long

Event Fee: FREE The Art Appreciation Program has been formerly known as the Art Docent or Cultural Arts Program. It consists of parent volunteers presenting a famous artists’ work to a class full of students. After the presentation, the children try their skills at mimicking the artist’s style.

The background research on each artist has been done. The PTA has a supply prints, books, and art project ideas. All we need now is YOU to be a Parent Presenter.
