Discovery

The Discovery Program offers a 2/3 combination class, a 4th grade, and a 5th grade class for those students on the East Hill in Renton who qualify for gifted services. In this program, students continue to receive instruction on basic academics. The curricula is extended and enhanced to meet individual needs. Students are presented with challenges that will enable them to become responsible for their own production and creative output.

Special Education

Our Special Education Resource Room provides instruction to eligible students in the basic academic areas of need. Instruction takes place in small groups and is designed to meet the individual needs of the students. A speech and language pathologists provides individual or small group instruction to students who qualify for services in the area of speech or language. A school psychologist is available at Kennydale part time. Students may also receive occupational therapy if they are eligible.

Learning Assistance Program

Our Learning Assistance Program (L.A.P.) Staff Specialist provides assistance to qualified students who need supplemental assistance in Reading.

E.L.L.

Students who are learning English receive assistance within our E.L.L. program.

Health

We have a half time counselor that serves our school. The counselor provides services to classrooms, small groups, and individuals as needed. A nurse is available at Kennydale one and one-half days per week and is on call at all other times. She screens students for scoliosis, vision, dental and hearing problems. She provides assistance to staff and students and consults with parents on general health matters and immunizations.

Curriculum Enhancements

Specialists provide instruction in music and physical education. Kennydale has an extensive library where students attend class and borrow books. The librarian provides direct instruction to students and assists teachers in finding books to enrich and expand the curriculum. Band and strings instruction is available to 5th grade students.

Safety Patrol

The school patrol is made up of 5th grade students and supervised by a teacher or staff specialist.
