Software Installation
The Renton School District has a strong
commitment to comply with software licensing regulations
in order to avoid potential legal and financial risk to
the District.
In order to comply with software licensing
requirements, the District is implementing a comprehensive
software license tracking and accountability system to
assure that all software installed on Renton School District
computers has been purchased by the district and is being
used in compliance with software license requirements.
Implementing this system will necessitate significant changes
in past practice with respect to the amount of autonomy
schools and individuals have had in the installation of
software on district computers.
For Employees Only: Software
installation requests for software currently
owned by the district and maintained at building or
in a department:
In order to acquire and maintain required
documentation of software licenses, the request
for installation of software must be accompanied by
the original media and the license for the software. If
the software is not currently used in the network environment,
software compatibility testing may need to take place before
the software is installed. Most software can be remotely
installed and will be done by an IMS tech support staff
member. In some cases software may be installed by the
tech liaison in the building in collaboration with the
IMS Help Desk.
Newly acquired software installation process:
Software purchases handled through the IMS
department will be installed remotely as soon as practical
after arrival of the software from the manufacturer or
reseller.
