Dear Highlands Families: Highlands Elementary School is a culturally-rich community that is committed to helping each student achieve academic and personal excellence. Our teaching staff is highly qualified and we are continually learning and growing professionally in order to serve the needs of each student. This year our focus includes implementing our school-wide positive behavioral support plan. Students are taught the Guidelines for Success and recognized for their positive choices which will lead to overall success at school. The Guidlines for Success are:
Our reading program is based on ninety minutes of daily instructional time with an additional forty-five minute "reading boost" for students needing additional support to assist their growth. Our math program is scheduled in sixty minute blocks and is designed to help students develop a deep understanding of basic mathematical concepts. Students are then taught to apply these concepts to think and problem-solve. We believe that each student has the capacity to grow and learn the skills that will help them become successful adults. Our desire is to support them and to build a partnership with our families and community in achieving this goal. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have concerns, questions or feedback about our programs here at Highlands. In Partnership for Growth and Excellence, Janet Fawcett |
