Responsible
behavior is encouraged as our staff focus on interacting more
frequently with students when they behave appropriately, rather
than when a student behaves inappropriately. Occasionally a
staff member may wish to specifically acknowledge a student
or group of students in a more structured manner. Suggestions
to our staff include:
Verbal
praise. Individual notes to a student.
Positive
postcards to parent or guardian.
"Husky
How".
Class
celebration when goals are met.
Good
report to interventionist.
"Certificate
of Merit".
Phone
call to the student and/or parent or guardian at home.
Give
the student additional responsibility.
Let
the class have free time.
Allow
music to be played during independent work periods.
Have
student run an errand.
Compliment
the student in front of their class or another staff member.
Ask
the Principal or another staff member to tell the student you
mentioned how well they are doing.
F.Y.I.
form to the student's teacher.
More
structured rewards are available from the Principal or Educational
Associate when deemed appropriate by a staff member. Rewards
are sometimes items that have been donated by local merchants.
Rewards may include:
Brag
time to share accomplishments.
Stickers.
Ice Cream.
Popcorn.
Gift Certificates to the School Store.
Top Dog Award
Each
month classroom teachers recognize students who have achieved
the status of Super Husky by consistently demonstrating all of
the Guidelines for Success on a daily
basis:
Being
respectful,
Being responsible,
Being safe,
Persevering,
Cooperating with others.
Staff
members fill out a Super Husky Certificate for
each successful student. Students are called to bring
their certificates
to the cafeteria on the last Friday of each month. The Principal,
Educational Associate and all available staff member
help celebrate
the success of these students by giving each a Top Dog Award Certificate
and Recognition. This is a major celebration for all students
who have successfully met our Highlands
Guidelines for Success.
Certificate
of Merit
Any
staff member may refer a student to the office for demonstrating
one or more of the Guidelines for Success.
Staff members fill out a "Certificate of Merit" for the student
being referred. This Certificate is sent to the office with the
student during the last 20 minutes of the school day. The "Certificate
of Merit" is signed by the Principal or Educational Associate
and given to the student to share with their family. In addition,
each student will be personally congratulated by the Principal
and asked to sign our "Certificate of Merit" book.
