There are a variety of ways for parents and community members to become involved in Renton Schools, including participation on a district advisory committee. Following is a list of advisory committees, meeting schedules, and contact information. Interested parties may also contact Community Relations at 425-204-2345 for additional information.

Career and Life Skills Education Advisory Committees
  • Workforce Training and Transition Advisory Council for Career and Life Skills Education programs and career pathway advisory committees.
  • Arts and Communication Pathway Advisory Committee for Composition/Information Processing, Applied Communications, Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), and Graphic Communications.

Citizen's Advisory Committee for Special Education

Provides advice on current special education programs, as well as possible future directions. This committee also functions as the District's 504/ADA compliance committee.

Diversity Advisory Committee

Meets to assist in promoting an awareness and understanding of diversity, providing input on adding multicultural and other diversity perspectives to the curriculum, and recruiting district personnel who value diversity. A 12-member committee.

Citizen's Advisory Committee for Education of Highly Capable

Provides parent and citizen input on the curriculum of the district's Discovery Program and to discuss general gifted education issues. Members serve for two years.

I-728 Ad Hoc Advisory Committee

Provides input to the Executive Steering Committee and to the Superintendent on District proposals for Initiative 728. Considers, reviews and recommends guidelines for use of I-728 funding and assists in development of the District Plan for Implementing Initiative 728.

Renton Technology Coordinating Council (RTCC)

Meets to consider and make recommendations related to planning and implementing the district's technology programs. Includes staff representatives from the technology subcommittees: Elementary Instruction, Secondary Instruction, Library, and Administrative Support. Also includes at-large parent representatives, a school board member, and resource staff.

Site-Based Decision Making Councils

Meeting times and opportunities vary by building. Members have a voice in decisions that affect instructional programs and operations at the individual school level. Councils are at varying states of development throughout the district.

Meets monthly to help direct the development of Site-Based Decision Making in the district. The committee includes parents and staff members.

District Strategic Planning

Meetings provide opportunities for citizens to participate in the district's strategic planning process. Action teams form in the Fall to address specific topics and a steering committee meets in the Spring for an annual review of the strategic plan.

Renton Communities In Schools Board

Meets the first Thursday of each month, 5:30-7:00 p.m. to provide direction to Communities In Schools of Renton, a partnership of the school district, the City of Renton, and local agencies that provide social, health, and education services to students and their families.

Construction Advisory Committee (CAC)

Meets as needed during the school year to serve as a sounding board and advisory group to the facilities staff and district bond construction projects. Initially formed after passage of the 1992 construction bond. A seven-member committee representing engineers, builders, business, the school board, parents and the community-at-large.

Enrollment Advisory Committee (ERC)

Meets to discuss issues related to adjusting attendance area boundaries, site-specific needs for portable classroom units, and other enrollment topics. Makes recommendations to the School Board. Members include parents from each school attendance area, administrators who represent general areas and levels, and resource staff.
