Campbell
Hill was originally part of Bryn Mawr School District No. 97.
Historical records show that there was a one-room elementary
school on the old Campbell Hill site in the year 1910. However,
records fail to provide detailed information about the old
school. In 1914, a two-room school was constructed on the same
site. This building had two classrooms with play space in the
basement.
During the
early 1950's, it was necessary to convert the basement play
rooms into classrooms so that four teachers could serve the
increasing number of students. This old wood frame school closed
in the spring of 1956 and a new Campbell Hill School opened
that fall at a total cost of $504,843. A $222,593 addition
in 1970 brought the size of the facility up to 39,357 square
feet. In 1991, a covered play area of 3,800 square feet was
built for $196,961.
Campbell
Hill's staff worked to focus on a positive learning environment
for culturally diverse students. Partnerships with businesses
and community agencies provided educational support, social
services, and mentoring experiences within the school community.
In the 1990s, students learned how to be self-managers in the
'I Can Manage Myself' program. Campbell Hill also developed
a 'Traveling Troupe' of students who acted in drama presentations.
In 1997, the school continued to foster active and effective
partnerships with parents.
Campbell
Hill kindergarten students began attending classes at Thomson
Early Childhood Center in 1989. Thomson served all kindergarten
students on the West Hill. In 1997, sixth grade students were
moved to the reopened Dimmitt Middle School.
In April
1998, a bond issue submitted to voters was passed which included
money
to build a new school on the Campbell Hill site to replace the
aging facility. The new school construction began in the summer
2001. During construction, the students attended Honey Dew School.
In the fall of 2002, the newly constructed Campbell Hill facility
opened much to the delight of staff, students and the community.
This newly built, state of the art building was dedicated
in May
of 2003. Campbell
Hill currently serves approximately 400 students in grades Kindergarten
through Five.
